Discover Public Service in Action

Future Public Servants: Exploring Civil Service in Action is a four-week summer enrichment program designed for high school students in Prince George’s County and the DC metro area. Through workshops, field trips, and guest speakers, students will explore the vital roles public servants play in transportation, public safety, education, health, and more.

Quick Facts:

  • 🗓 Program Dates: 4 weeks, Monday–Thursday | 9 AM – 3 PM

  • 📍 Location: Largo High School + site visits

  • 🎓 Who It's For: Rising 11th–12th graders

  • 🧾 Bonus: Certificate of Completion (great for college/internships)

What You'll Experience

WEEK ONE

Introduction to Public Service

  1. Explore government roles at all levels

  2. Icebreakers, team-building, and a kickoff group project

  3. Guest speakers from local, state, and federal government

WEEK THREE

BWI Field Trip - Government in Motion

  1. Tour TSA, FAA, and airport management

  2. Meet behind-the-scenes staff who keep BWI running

  3. Onsite interviews and real-world insights

WEEK TWO

Deep Dive into Government Services

  1. Learn how budgets, services, and departments function

  2. Simulations and interactive panels with civil servants

WEEK FOUR

Career & Civic Readiness

  1. Resume workshop and mock interviews

  2. Learn how to pursue government careers and scholarships

  3. Final presentations + student showcase event
